Profile
Barry is a results-oriented trainer who helps individuals and organizations understand how to effectively manage conflict and negotiate in a constructive manner. He has seen the devastating effects that conflict has on organizations and knows that even minimal levels of unmanaged conflict can: Decrease productivity and sap creativity 2. Significantly increase employee turnover 3. Create a culture of fear and suspicion 4. De-motivate team members By encouraging a friendly and open atmosphere, Barry helps people relax about discussing conflict and become open to understanding how they can change their interactions. By examining the factors that create and perpetuate conflict, he helps participants understand what is behind different types of conflict. He then provides participants with multiple “tools” to address conflict in a practical and productive manner. Barry draws upon a diverse professional and educational background that includes fifteen years in the business world, including thirteen years with Fortune 500 companies, as well as advanced degrees in Conflict Management and Clinical Psychology. In private practice since 2003, Barry has also been a staff mediator with the DisabilityMediationCenter at LoyolaLawSchool. He serves on several distinguished mediation panels including the Second Appellate District (CA) and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission panels. He is a member of the Association for Conflict Resolution, the Southern California Mediation Association, the Los Angeles County Bar Association, and the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts. He began his career in mediation by completing a Masters degree in Conflict Management at FresnoPacificUniversity after completing an earlier Masters degree in Clinical Psychology from PepperdineUniversity. In his spare time, Barry is a whitewater rafting guide on the Kern River, a life-long skier, a PADI Advanced scuba diver and an avid world traveler. |
