Profile

The first four years of Dons formal education started in a one-room country school house. He graduated from Momence H.S, Momence, Illinois in 1957, Immediately after graduation he enlisted in the US Army for three years. Completing his service time he enrolled at Marquette University in 1960. With the birth of his first daughter he had to become a part-time student. He worked at a gas station, drove a Coca-Cola route truck, sold cars, worked at Caterpillar plant, worked as a security guard, worked in a foundry plant, and became a radio announcer. After six years he had completed only half of the credits needed to graduate. He transferred to Illinois State University and with the return of the G.I. Bill, Don finished his last two years of college in just 18 months Now with two daughters he finally graduated after eight years. He then moved to Houston, Texas. He worked in the automotive after market field as a salesman most of his life. He even preformed stand up comedy and entertained as the clown Mr. Donaldo.

In April of 2002, at age 62, he was diagnosed with stage IV non-Hodgkins lymphoma cancer. He was devastated. His wife, Denise, came up with the idea that his cancer was a blessing that offered many wonderful opportunities for growth and development, He spent nine months receiving chemotherapy with an attitude of gratitude. Medical tests proved that he was cancer free in January of 2003. He then spent a year regaining his strength while being active in the Lymphoma Society support groups and sharing his experiences and the valuable lessons he had learned. Sixteen months after his last chemo at age 64, Don completed as a member of the Lymphoma Team in Training cycle team a 100 mile bike ride around Lake Tahoe. He continues to ride and train for local bike rides.

Along with great medical care, Don used many of the life principles available to us all to conquer his cancer. He now is speaks, teaches and writes about these life principles to inform people they to may use these same principles to have a more meaningful, joyful and abundant life.
