Training is usually about skills and product data. How about training that opens company policy development to employee pressures? Remember, a stressed out employee is more likely to make mistakes, have an accident, get sick, burn out and make poor decisions. But when management listens and responds creatively to employees good things happen. A release by the MetLife Foundation issued in December of 2009 reports that 29% or more than 65 million people are caregivers. Almost one third of all households are included. “Caregiving” is care given children above and beyond regular parenting, as well as care given adults. Seven in ten caregivers are caring for persons over the age of 50.

Caregiving lasts on average 4.6 years and 20 hours per week. The odds are excellent that many of YOUR employees or their spouses are giving care. So why not consider a training designed to find out? Remember, listening is perceived as phony if there is no meaningful response. Caregivers are not interested in sympathy or good wishes. What they need is tangible, realistic support and relief, often in terms of flexibility in the work schedule. They will tell you exactly how and what they need if you are serious to listen and respond. Do so and you will have a loyal, hardworking, committed employee for years to come. Caregivers are loyal and responsible to begin with. After all, that is why they are giving care!
