Profile
All of us know someone who has had cancer. It can be a frightening subject to think about. It is a very expensive subject as well. The annual cost of cancer is $89 billion in direct medical costs, and $130 billion in lost productivity - that is a tremendous burden to employers. Health insurance premiums have gone up 98% since 2000 - that burdens employers, as well as their workers. The good news is that even though cancer is scary and expensive, it is also one of the most preventable diseases. Of the 500,000 annual cancer deaths in the US, 75% are linked to lifestyle factors. Smoking, nutrition, exercise, and obesity are the most important factors noted. These are all related to choices that we make every day. Only 5-10% of cancers are directly linked to inherited genetic abnormalities. Sheilan Matthais brings a compelling message to her audiences - she takes the fear out of this topic, and puts the outcomes in your hands. She offers a perspective that you haven't heard before - and a message of hope that relates directly to strategies you can easily implement today. Sheilan has 15 years of speaking experience on this topic. She has presented seminars for a wide variety of groups, such as the US Depts of Justice, Commerce, and Defense, the FBI Training Academy in Quantico, Va., the National Education Association, and many private groups and businesses. Sheilan is a cancer survivor. She is also an RN, with 29 years of experience in health care, and is a published author on improving the quality of care. She has a corporate background in risk appraisal. This combination of experiences allows her to appreciate both sides of the equation: physical cost and the financial cost. Individuals and businesses together are well served to reduce risk of cancer - both from the standpoint of personal physical risk, and financial risk. This can be a model for business health as well. Sheilan is a business owner who has built a business around teaching people to get healthier, and offering strategies to help them do that. As a business owner, she has coached a sales team on the importance of excellent customer service, and she implements these strategies. The results speak for themselves - her business generates $40,000 - $50,000 of monthly sales revenue. Customer service is a proactive strategy - it is much easier, and less expensive, to retain customers and revenues than it is to go find new ones. Businesses and employees together can also take good care of themselves - this increases productivity, reduces time off work, and improves the bottom line for everyone! Sheilan has a wide breadth of experience: health care provider, business owner, speaker, author, business trainer, and member of corporate America. She has the personal experience of her own cancer journey. All of these backgrounds give her a unique insight into the importance of being proactive - for personal health, and business profitability. Sheilan knows how to get results. She will teach you easy, effective strategies that will improve lives, and improve your bottom line! |
