After graduate school at UCLA and 33 years of teaching, which included 6 Teacher of the Year Awards, I felt like I had done my part. Retirement looked inviting but guess what? Life was boring! So, I decided to return to the love of my life, teaching, through the Teacher Substitute Role. To my great surprise I found that most of the new teachers and dare I say a tremendous number of experienced teachers, had very little idea how to make a class exciting, fun and above all how to make their subject interesting and easy. May I say this with care and love for my fellow instructors, as I know how hard they work. However, working harder and spending more time is not the answer. They must work smarter. It didn’t take much push from some fellow teachers to get me to write a book. The book is called “Teaching Out of the Box.” In the book I give at least 17 different methods of teaching, from memory techniques using acronyms to jokes, games, parodies, stories, artifacts, and yes some very effective on stage magic tricks that are very easy but they will blow the students minds. Because of the book I have been invited to make presentations at such universities as Long Beach State University, seminars at federally funded seminars and many individual public and private schools. Mr. William Habermehl, the Superintendent of Orange County Public here in Southern California, had the following comment about the book. “This book has terrific merit and I would suggest that all of my teachers and teachers everywhere to digest the knowledge, ideas and humor this book has to offer. I can be observed at a conference presentation on line at www.stancody.com. I give keynote speeches and 1, 2 or3 hour seminars dealing with making school life exciting and fun. I also have hourly meetings on history and English. Of course I could easily fill a full day seminar if that is what is needed. I will guarantee you an exciting program with lessons, stories and antidotes that you will remember for a long long time. Have a nice day. Stan Cody (See examples below.)
