(Turning hard times into good times)

The natural order of all things management can be simplified into 6 basics. In times of economic downturn basics are the guide. Basics are beautiful!

A. Make a Plan

  • goals and objectives: what are we trying to do?
  • teamwork: how will we do it? Your people are the greatest resource. Tap the talent!
  • time management: when will we do it?
  • evaluation: how will we know we did it?

B. Communicate the Plan

  • 4 channels: visual, verbal, cognitive, experiential
  • listening and connecting: communication is 50% listening

C. Teamwork

  • delegation
  • work groups of 3-5 people work best
  • leadership emerges: let it! Cream rises

D. Evaluate

  • what happened?
  • why did it happen?
  • what next?

E. Differences in Stress between Men and Women

  • sexuality
  • medical
  • single parent issues in corporate schedules
  • dating in middle age
  • taking it like a man

F. Taking Care of Self (significant others invited)

  • proper nutrition
  • exercise
  • rest and sleep
  • skip the junk food, sugar, alcohol and sweets
  • time management equals energy management

What You Will Learn

A. Communicating: the secret to effective leadership, good management and stress reduction/prevention.

  • 50% of communicating is listening. Do you hear what I hear? Message in, message out.
  • 4 main channels: visual, verbal, experiential, cognitive (super rational)
  • what this means for leadership and management
  • what this means for sales and client relationships
  • what this means for stress reduction and prevention in the workplace

B. Win-Win is Better than Winners and Losers: Man Talk vs. Woman Talk

  • it’s not a contest so quit competing
  • time management: start with necessity, then priorities, then to hell with the rest
  • delegating: a lost art that you can recover!
  • set clear goals at home and at work
  • know your limits
  • communicate! Do not believe in mind reading
  • no acting! Be yourself. Believe in you.

C. Survival Guide: Manage the Stress

  • good nutrition
  • proper rest. Time outs and breaks matter. Take them and use them!
  • proper exercise. Your body is not a machine. Take care of it.
  • skip the booze, cigarettes, junk food, sugar
  • become a good worrier: the mental component of stress
  • how women experience stress differently than men: medical, sexuality, parenting, self worth and self esteem

D. Crisis Management and Problem Solving: Survival Guide for Women

  • be a one-minute manager: make sure everybody else is doing something about it!
  • analyze before announcing!
  • delegate before rushing into action!
  • listen before speaking
  • support before, during and after
  • congratulate others
  • remember: if you have too much work on your desk the rest of the crew have too little on theirs!
