Profile

Biography:

PMI’S PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROVIDER OF THE YEAR

Lee R. Lambert, PMP, founder and CEO of Lambert Consulting Group, Inc., is an honored and distinguished member of the project management community. After starting his career in project management in 1968 with General Electric, Lee spent 18 years in the trenches working hands-on with project management techniques and tools. During a distinguished corporate career, he held several senior project management positions with major U.S. corporations, including General Electric, Lawrence Livermore Laboratory and Battelle Memorial Institute. Among his extensive client list are IBM, Prudential Insurance, Monsanto, Sprint, Motorola, AT&T, CitiGroup, Nationwide Insurance, American Electric Power, Global Commerce Services, SAP Labs, Bechtel and National City Mortgage. To-date Mr. Lambert has trained over 30,000 students, in 21 countries, on the value-added use of the project management process and its associated tools and techniques. He has earned his Master’s Certificate in Project Management from George Washington University and in 1981, he was a founding member of the five person team that formulated and implemented the Project Management Institute's (PMI) Project Management Professional (PMP1) Certification Program, now recognized as the world’s standard in the profession of project management. Most recently, Wiley Publishing selected Mr. Lambert to author: PMP Certification All-in-One Desk Top Reference for Dummies, which is due out in August 2008.

Mr. Lambert’s consulting efforts have included four successful Enterprise-wide project management process development and implementation assignments. His humorous, creative, and effective common-sense-based learning facilitation style has been emphatically praised by thousands of students throughout the world. He has long been considered one of the world's leading project management educators.

In addition to serving as the lead trainer for Lambert Consulting Group, Inc., Mr. Lambert served on the American Management Association’s (AMA) Project Management Curriculum Development Council and is one of the senior instructors for George Washington University’s Masters Certificate in Project Management curriculum. As an author, Mr. Lambert’s publications include 26 journal articles and two books, including the most widely distributed text on the Earned Value Management System (EVMS) in the project management field, The CommonSense Approach to Project Management: Using Earned Value to Balance the Triple Constraint. He serves on the Editorial Review Board for PMNetwork and the Project Management Journal, has contributed two chapters to the AMA's critically acclaimed Project Management Handbook and has recently been cited in the Josey-Bass publication, Creating the Project Office, for his pioneering efforts in successfully developing corporate project offices. Mr. Lambert was the Master of Ceremonies for the ProjectWorld 2000 Conference in Boston and currently instructs workshops and makes technical presentations regularly at the PMI Symposia, ProjectWorld Conference, and the American Association of Cost Engineers International Symposia.

In 1995, Mr. Lambert was given the coveted Distinguished Contribution Award by PMI for his sustained dedication and contribution to the growth of the project management profession. Since then, he has committed himself, and his entire organization, to providing consistent, high quality project management professional development and training at a price that any budget can afford, through his “PDUs for Pennies” workshops. The response has been overwhelming and thousands of overworked, and underpaid, PMs have benefited. These efforts have recently earned him the award for PMI’s 2007 Professional Development Provider of the Year Award.

Classes:

Defining, Estimating, Scheduling and Status/Forecasting Projects –
Stop Talking About It and Start Doing It!

Define work scope, structure deliverables, define precedence relationships, accomplish quantitative progress assessment and make uncanny predictions for the future of your project efforts. Finally, you will be able to stop talking about project management and become a moving force in realizing a substantial ROI on your project management knowledge.

Inspiration Engineering: Things Your Mother Never Taught You About Leadership

This one-of-a-kind learning program will demonstrate how program, project or task managers can easily utilize simple tools and techniques to influence and inspire the “loaned” matrix resources that have been assigned to help accomplish project and organizational objectives. Lee R. Lambert will artfully describe and illustrate the power of these concepts—especially when combined with common project management related information—by citing specific examples from three very successful, real-world, projects.

Delivering Project Truth to Decision Makers: Influencing the Project Decision Process Using PM Decision Support Tools

This data-case driven program will thoroughly examine the myriad approaches to obtaining and validating project status for the project’s most current reporting period and from project inception (cumulative-to-date). These data, when combined with the equivalent of sodium pentothal forecasting and trending methods will deliver an undisputable view into the future of the project. In keeping with the statement: “Whatever has happened in the past will continue to happen in the future, unless someone does something about it”, this crystal clear picture will facilitate meaningful and productive action by the project decision makers.

Avoiding and/or Recovering "Challenged" Projects: Breathing Life Into a Potentially Dead Project

This real-world based learning program will look at the critical “triggers” that should be carefully created and closely watched to determine when/if a project (and maybe you) is headed for the graveyard.  Some projects are born dead and others die a long and painful death.  Now you can learn how to avoid a project fatality by gathering, analyzing and projecting “status” indicators.

BACK TO BASICS SERIES: WBS & PRECEDENCE DIAGRAMMING

This is NOT a lecture course.  Following a succinct targeted lecture setup, participants will be required to complete a series of workshop exercises to assure skill building competence transfer has been accomplished.

How To Influence Organizational Decision Makers

This programis a HARD CORE, VALUE-ADDED, case study/exercise driven learning opportunity!  You will learn how to become the project manager everyone in your organization is talking about.  You will be able to take what you learn in these two days and become your organization's super PM.

Pragmatic Applications of Scheduling Concepts

After this course participants will be able to:

1. Create a comprehensive Project Integrated Logic Network Schedule from Project Work Packages
2. Anticipate the impacts of changes in resources, work scope and budget on project schedules
3. Manage the Critical Path and take advantage of the flexibility of the Float Paths
4. Use the Integrated Logic Network to assess the impact of change
5. Identify and incorporate time driven contingency into the project schedule
6. Evaluate the potential gains to be realized by incorporating Lags/Leads in the logic relationships

Real World Quantitative Methods for Successful Project Management

Participants in this intense program will be exposed to, and work with, a series of mini-case study exercise. Through these exercises, participants will learn how to apply the formulas and methodologies to produce vital project information.  Bring your calculator.  Be prepared to “work”.

Real World Earned Value for Dummies: Realizing the Benefits - Forget the Bureaucracy

This powerful presentation will focus on helping PM professionals understand and use the fundamental Earned Value concepts on any project—any size and/or any duration—by implementing simple, easy-to-understand methods.  They will learn how to take control of their ability to Add Value to your project management contribution by using Earned Value concepts to create a realistic, fact-based, view of their project’s current and projected.

The Truth About Work Breakdown Structures: Taking the "BS" out of WBS

After this course participants will be able to:

1. Understand what a WBS is AND what it Isn't
2. Determine if a Task or Deliverable orientation is best
3. Capatilize on the different development techniques
4. Use the WBS as the basis for realistic estimating
5. Determine the appropriate level of Work Package granulation
