My brother intensely dislikes many of today's politicians. Someone who graduated suma cum laude in engineering he has tired of what he considers wobbly logic and factual inaccuracies. He has taken to thinking through his own positions and checking to see if politicians views are acceptable to his way of thinking.
My brother's zeal for coherent thinking is admirable but I am find myself asking if he is still listening. Specifically, I ask him questions like what were the major points a politician made. What evidence was provided in support of those arguments? What experiences did the politicians offer that suggests they can do what they say they are going to do?
My brother protests that means taking politicians seriously. Considerable time and effort is required to really understand the political issues. The desmands of my brother's work and personal life make it difficult to find the time.
