TENSION HEADACHES IN THE BOARDROOM

Does your head begin to hurt after a long day? Does your neck get stiff and achy when deadlines near?  If it does, then you have plenty of company. In fact, according to the Mayo Clinic, tension headaches are the most common headache and symptoms are quite varied. One woman says it feels like there is a tight band around her head every time her boss screams.  Another reports pain in the back of the neck and skull for no clear real reason at all.

In THE OTHER AMERICA, the defining year remains 1931--a year when more than one fourth of all American were ill clad, ill fed and ill housed. That's surviviving.

In THE OTHER AMERICA, there are continual layoffs, no affirmative action or equal opportunity, no health insurance and no unemployment insurance. That's testing.

In THE OTHER AMERICA. there are endless challenges to be overcome-- aptitude testing to exclude, overpriced courses and training and rigid and frequent certification requirements. That is outlasting.

In THE OTHER AMERICA, one's best is never good enough. New data skills, new regulations and rules and new circles of friends must be endlessly mastered. Now that's performing.

But the proud, the fe

You wake up one morning and the world seems to be collapsing around you. Your tenuous time living with you parents because you are running out of money has gotten worse because you placed a bowl in the wrong place in a washing machine or forgot about a coupon to purchase a scooper for cleaning out leave troughs. The previous week a job hunting trip went bad because your car with 120,000 miles on it broke down on highway with steam coming out from underneath the hood. One day late in paying off your membership in your health club, you ask the owner if you can discount for doing some work around the gym. You are told that the gym has more than enough people working for them. Even if they did, you wouldn't be the one they would want. So it goes.

You can develop a real bad feeling about yourself if all this continues. Just because others suggest bad things doesn't mean they are true.

Life occassionally sends each of us life perservers. If these life persevers ar

Losing someone we love can be one of the most challenging stressors we face as human beings.

Science shows us that "two hearts that beat as one" is more than a poetic concept. It's literal. When we fall in love, our heartbeats literally get in synch, internally and with one another, and beat as "one heart."When we lose a loved one, either through death or separation, having that "other" heart we entrained with go away can give us a lost feeling. We may think that it is the absence of the other person that creates this uncomfortable sensation we call a "broken heart." But in fact, it is our own grief reaction which causes our heart rhythms to take on a chaotic pattern, throwing everything else out of whack with them.
The good news is that we can access the power, beauty, and joy that we feel when we are in synch with the objectof our love, even

What you can't see is more important than what you can. Whether it be physical, mental or emotional- the invisible creates the visible. Whether it be in person or on the 90 Day Health and Body Makeover, we help you reprogram your mind to take care of you first- and always.

It doesn't take scientific knowledge to drop a few pounds or build a bigger bicep. But to shape and tone your body correctly in order to prevent injuries and avoid joint degeneration requires specialized training most fitness trainers simply don't have. Certifications last a few days ans science needs more than a few days.

The Invisible Fitness difference is that our trainers and coaches each have backgrounds in biomechanics, and base your personalized fitness program on a thorough understanding of the human body. Combined with the research we conduct with you beforehand, your program is uniquely built on the foundation of your goals and abilities.

Los Angeles drivers spend 56 hours a year stuck in traffic as well do many Americans all over the country.  So why not channel that road rage into whittling your thighs or your waistline?  Fitness expert and Exercise Architect, J.J. Flizanes of Invisible Fitness, tells us how to work out behind the wheel...

There are 3 types of contractions our muscles make: Concentric, Eccentric and Isometric. While the first two require a bit of room, Isometric training does not!  I spend many hours a day and too many hours a week in my car so I know first hand how sluggish we can all feel sitting on our butts all day. The biggest complaint I hear from my busy clients (who ISN'T busy??) is that they don't have TIME.  We all have 7 days a week that equal 168 hours. So let's maximize the drive time, shall we?

"Are "Carbs" bad for me?"   No!   So what's the hype?????

Fact: Carbohydrates are the most important macronutrient.   Your body uses carbohydrates as energy to fuel you like the gas in your car.

Fiction: Eating bread or grains will make you fat.

Why do we believe this? Because most of the pastas, grains and breads we eat are high in calories and low in nutrients.  Sugar is a carb... so if you are eating lots of sugar, you may gain weight because you are having too many empty calories that get stored as fat instead of used as energy. Athletic supplements for runners or competitors usually contain mostly sugar-- because these folks need energy FAST during their competitions.  We, as the general population, do NOT need fast energy because we SIT most of the time.  Leave the Gatorade and Power Bar "Goo" for the marathons WHEN they are running. I would even say cut back on the protein bars too since they also contain a lot of sugar and add up to a lot of extra calories each week.

How many times a week do I meet with new clients over or close to 50 who workout and see NO RESULTS???  Many, many times!

"Why can't I lose weight after menopause even though I walk on the treadmill 7 days a week for 30 min? "

Your body weight is a total mass number which includes many components (skin, organs, blood, hair, muscle, fat, bone, etc).  When you lose weight, you can lose fat, water or muscle. When you see you have lost a couple of pounds-do you know what you have lost?  You want to lose fat since you need both muscle and water.

Muscle uses energy and having more of it increases your metabolism. In fact, the amount of muscle you have is the largest component of what determines the speed of your metabolism!  2 people both 125 pounds and 5'5 will burn calories differently based on their composition.  Subject #1 is 20% body fat and Subject #2 is 38% body fat.  That could mean that Subject #1 may be burning up to 500 more calories each day at rest even though they weight the same!

During and after menopause, women lose hormones which decreases the ability to hold on to muscle.  Men with aging also lose hormones.  If your diet has not changed while your metabolism is slowing down, then you are gaining weight based on your body changing.  Doing merely cardio is only burning calories while you work out.  But of course there is also efficiency in cardio.  Are you working hard enough?  Do you know how hard you should be working?  I find that most men and women over 50 walk outside or on the treadmill at a pace which is too easy for them.  They think it is cardio because they sweat but because they are good at it, the use of that time is wasted since the intensity level is not high enough to burn more calories or to force the body to change.  I suggest using a heart rate monitor to gauge where you are an learn about where you should be.

Most forms of cardio do not increase your resting metabolism as well therefore you only burn more when you move more. If you want long term weight loss, spend more time building muscle to increase your metabolism instead of having to decrease your daily diet. We all need muscle to move and protect our joints from injury, build bone, keep metabolism high to ward off weight gain and to look and feel our best.
