If it wasn't called work.....
When I first started working when I was sixteen, I had already learned the value of good hard work. Growing up, my father had insisted on us working every spare moment of every day. Well that's what it seemed like! I had to tell my friends on most occasions that I could not go to the party or have a stay over because I had to help my dad build something or clean something. I hated it.
But after I had started working a real job for real money, there was a comment made to me from a manager of the Albertsons store that I was working at while I was staying overtime to mop up the floor. I will remember his words the rest of my life. As he watched me work with enthusiasm and vigor, he said with sincerity, "Eli, if you ever need a job at anytime in your life, you've got one."
Wow! Someone noticed my hard work ethic. That made me feel good.
Since that day I have always tried to compliment those that have worked with me or for me. And whats funny about it is that they always seemed to work even better after I sincerely commented on them.
I believe as humans going through each tiring busy day, we tend to forget how living the simple phrase of the Golden Rule can better our work atmospheres, each communication made, and every relationship.
Why do we forget to raise ourselves up and be the better person?
A favorite phrase of mine coming from Doctor Phil is, "So how's that working for you." If our work atmosphere is in peril because of our interactions with others, then focusing on true values of making someone else's life better through decent respect and consideration will reciprocate true benefit for us. If something isn't working very well, resolve to initiate a solution that does not resemble the current path you have been taking.
We all know the words of the Golden Rule but how many of us live them?
"Oh Eli, we've heard that a million times since birth" you say.
How's that working for you!
