Love Is The Only Reality

Love Is the Only Reality

About 20 years ago, Reverend Kay Hunter, my minister, said during her message, “Love is the only reality. Where there is no love there is misery, poverty, confusion, distrust, etc. but where there is love there is peace, joy, harmony, and positive expectation.” When she said that I knew that statement was a keeper. I jotted down Her remarks and over the years have begun to understand exactly what she meant.

When my Dad was close to the end of his life I finally realized the truth of what Reverend Kay said. One afternoon, after school, Dad’s granddaughter Kaci came into the room where Dad was sleeping and reached over and said, ‘hello Paw Paw’. Dad looked up at her and put his hand out and touched her and muttered some sound. Although he had not much life left,. very little strength, he still had he capacity to show and receive love for his granddaughter. I then realized exactly what Reverend Kay was talking about. Love is the only reality. Dad had basically nothing left but a little life and lots of love.

Where I work now, as a correctional office in a maximum security prison, I work with about 900 inmates who probably never experienced much love or had anyone to love them. They ooze with hate and it seems there only joy is when they’re fighting, destroying something or breaking the rules.

What I was going through my cancer treatment my life was filled with the love of my friends, family, wife in my two dogs. It was love the cured my cancer along with great medical care.
