- Cultural Diversity and Perceptual Bias by Devona Williams, Ph.D.
With the events of the past few weeks surrounding the tragedy of Trayvon Martin, we may be reminded of what we truly see when we judge others by their appearance. When it comes to the cultural diversity of people who come in every color, gender, and size and a host of other differences, many are heard saying “when I look at other people, I don’t see color but who they are as a person”. What is diversity?
I am sure many people hear this word and never really get a clear understanding. My goal is to help clear up the
ambiguity.
Diversity is understanding the differences that make each person unique.
Everyone has their own identity and make up and it comes from a wide variety of backgrounds. Being able to accept these differences in identity and make up is what diversit - The Struggle and Need for Innovation - Is it Only Lip Service? by JoAnn Corley

The measure of how prepared a person is, is whether they are able to perform at the top of their abilities. There is absolutely nothing wrong with getting beaten by somebody who has greater abilities than your own, but there is great shame in getting beaten - Attitude is Everything by Al Foxx

Imagine being 5-foot-2 and playing professional baseball. And not just playing, but also managing, coaching, scouting, owning a professional barnstorming team that toured the country, and traveling Europe as a representative of Major League Baseball. - Attitude Teamwork by Al Foxx
Life is a lot like a football game or a play on Broadway. While some players have roles that have them on stage more often, or maybe they have greater athletic ability than the average player, an Attitude of teamwork is essential. Even the best of the best need the rest of the team.

Since love is undeniably the strongest Attitude one can have, it’s probably way past time I have a post or more talking about the power love. Because I’m not a poet and because I know it, when Bonnie sent me the poem below, it seemed too perfect not to Blog it.

The current of life is always moving. Life can be understood to be like swimming upstream; the speed of the currant depends upon our Attitudes. We are either moving forward or backward. If we relax and just float, the current carries us downstream, away from our goals.

Wooden is said by many fans, team members, teammates and opponents to be the greatest basketball coach of all time. The Attitudes he taught the teams he coached, Attitudes like teamwork, personal excellence, dedication, discipline, focus, organization and leadership are the same Attitudes anyone needs to succeed in the real world.

Because I believe our Attitudes can either be our castle or our coffin, and because I also believe our Attitude is our choice, whenever I read something that seems relevant to Attitudes, I think about how it applies to the Attitude I’m currently choosing to have.

Having a humble, helpful Attitude of love and respect toward everyone we touch is the only sensible Attitude.
The idea that there’s a boundary between self and others, that we can see ourselves as valuable and loveable if we are harming someone else, is false and denies the connection that we all share.
The harm in denying our mutual identity is that this Attitude is passed on to new genera

Martin Buber (1878-1965) was an eminent Jewish Philosopher. His most influential work was perhaps "Ich und Du" which was translated into English as "I and Thou." Reading this book was a great challenge to me, but it was worth the effort.
"I and Thou"' was based on Buber's philosophy of Dialogue which explored the distinction of what he called "I-Thou" or "I-it."

The Johari Window is named after its inventors Jozeph Luft and Harry Ingham. It is a model used to describe the process of human interaction.
