I just presented at a local public risk meeting. I discussed how wellness is a culture change not just a program that a company can throw money at. You can measure and assess all the metrics of health and wellness you want but until an organization realizes that wellness, fitness, health, productivity and reduced sick days come from changing an entire culture you are simply wasting your time and money.
Leadership is not only leading by example but doing things you do not necessarily want to do your self. Of all the wellness, injury prevention, fitness and health programs I have helped to design the successful ones run the top down, not the bottom up. Culture change occurs when the decision makers decide that enough is enough and actually change the culture.
